Funny Christmas T-Shirts Help Guide Me Home
Posted by Denise Smith at Nov 25th, 2011 in Funny Sites
My dear husband and kids were placed on this earth to eternally make me feel guilty for sticking to a schedule, wearing nice clothes, and consistently shooting down inane ideas for family fun. I’m sorry if I’m not interested in building snow forts and having giant snowball fights that involve the whole neighborhood…and probably pneumonia. Nothing I do is for the sake of being cruel, it’s for the sake of practicality. It was that practicality that finally made me change my mind about the funny Christmas t-shirts.
What was so surprising is that they tried to sneak these shirts in like little soviet spies during the 50’s. In retrospect, I have to believe that my husband was somehow involved in this grand scheme to wear funny Christmas t-shirts to our family dinner. Perhaps the very act of doing it is the only way that it was an executable plan, because they had to know that I would deny them.
They really went for the brass ring on this one too, because I might have been talked into the funny Christmas t-shirts for anything but the family dinner. I just normally enjoy seeing the children wearing their pajamas to open gifts. It just seems so picturesque to me, and I love the idea of a picturesque Christmas Day. So, perhaps I wouldn’t have said yes to those shirts after all.
I didn’t get any kind of easing into any kind of situation about any kind of funny Christmas t-shirts. No, they just sprang it on me over Christmas dinner. I told everyone to go upstairs and get ready for dinner a full two hours in advance because family were on their way over. I don’t like to consider myself the nagging type, but when I heard the sounds of horseplay and video games coming down the steps, I had to yell up to remind them to focus on the task at hand.
Lo and behold, two hours later I called them down for dinner. I expected to see three young boys wearing respectable dress shirts and ties. What I got instead were three unruly, rebellious kids wearing funny Christmas t-shirts and sitting down to dinner at my table that I had worked so hard to prepare. My brother and his wife both snickered, knowing how I feel about informal clothing at special meals.
Everyone got really quiet because they could tell how angry I got. Maybe it was the stress of wanting to have the respect of the family, or maybe it was the weariness from cooking…but I was literally going to yell at these children for something so silly as wearing funny Christmas t-shirts to dinner. My husband put a hand on my shoulder and I looked into his sympathetic eyes that were telling me that I should calm down. He was, of course, right. Christmas is not for anger. It’s for relaxation and love, and apparently…for funny Christmas t-shirts.
